Gr 4-7-This fifth book in the series offers 35 puzzling scenarios to be solved. All of the mini-mysteries are less than two pages in length and will appeal to reluctant readers and those students who are page counters. Some of the stories will require research to identify the details that are at odds with the facts in order to solve the mystery. For example, readers will need to know when helium was discovered to understand the puzzle of "A Visit to the Zoo." The characters have humorous names such as Sergeant Rebekah Shurshot, Bunny Jammies, Officer Longarm, and night custodian, Don Sweepen. Reading these selections aloud will generate interest in the genre and provide a basis for discussion of clues, main character, etc. The answers to the whodunits are appended.- Kathleen A.
