Climate Change and New Challenges

We are living in a climate of uncertainty. With unprecedented changes in the climate order of the biosphere new challenges are emerging and posing a threat to humanity. Climate chaos, climate instability and climate unpredictability are the orders of our times pervading the planet Earth. Natural resources, potential resources, food security systems and socio-economic systems would be on the verge of collapse should the disaster reduction, adaptation and mitigation strategies are not evolved and implemented. This book presents a scenario of the current and impending environmental catastrophe owing to the rapidly occurring changes in the climate system. A hot planet is a malady of conventional development characterized by over-exploitation of natural resources, environmental pollution and socio-economic inequity. Potential resources necessary to respond to maldevelopment are existing. With an environmental awareness, political willpower and people s participation we would be able to restore the natural ecosystems, put the climate in order and save our living planet. Many such measures have been discussed in the book. We need to change our lifestyles and development strategies to challenge climate change. It is possible, it is easy, it is inevitable for our survival, for our sustainability, for our happiness and for ushering in a happy and sustainable future.
