He also had various interests outside of politics, for he was a co-owner of the Coal Creek Road Company and several gambling parlors, among other things. The current pamphlet contained the condensed version of a lecture Garfielde had delivered, subtopics of which included climate of the Northwest, California irrigation, causes of the diversity of climate, etc.The previous owner of the pamphlet, Arnold Henry Guyot (1807 - 1884), was a Swiss - American geologist and geographer. Several landmarks have been named after him, including the Guyot Crater on the Moon, Guyot Glacier in Alaska, and three different Mt.
