About the Author
Michael A. Chizner, M.D., is Chief Medical Director of The Heart Center of Excellence of the North Broward Hospital District in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Clinical Professor of Medicine at both the University of Miami School of Medicine and the University of Florida College of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, where he was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. After completing his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, Dr. Chizner served as a Fellow in Cardiology at Georgetown University Medical Center with the legendary cardiologist, Dr. W. Proctor Harvey, where he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Dr. Chizner is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association, and the American College of Physicians, and has been recognized by his peers as one of the nation’s top cardiologists in the publication, Best Physicians in the U.S. He has published numerous articles and book chapters in cardiology, and has edited a critically-acclaimed two-volume textbook entitled, Classic Teachings in Clinical Cardiology – A Tribute to W. Proctor Harvey, M.D. Dr. Chizner also serves on the editorial boards of the journals, Cardiovascular Reviews and Reports, where he is the section editor of the monthly series, New Therapy Update, and the recently released American Heart Hospital Journal. He has directed national continuing medical education conferences in cardiology, and is involved in the instruction of medical students, practicing physicians, and other health care professionals at a variety of levels. In addition to the practice of clinical cardiology, Dr. Chizner’s current interests include the establishment of a cardiac center of excellence in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, committed to the advancement of medical education, clinical research, and the highest quality of compassionate, state-of-the-art patient care.
