There is a considerable and increasing interest in research related to complementary therapies, to establish a base of research results which will support practice. However, not all therapies can be treated the same way, either from the same perspective of what health and treatment are, or channelled through the process of randomised controlled trials. This book analyses the key questions often asked and the controversies debated in complementary medicine research, and offers clear guidance written by experts in this field.
Describes and analyses general research issues which would have a specific significance in complementary therapy (CT) research
Suggests both general and specific factors which need to be considered in assessing or planning CT research
Pinpoints aspects of research which are different in orthodox research and CT research
Reviews briefly the types of research carried out in specific complementary therapies and analyses issues which arise
Includes information on measuring the economic cost and benefits of complementary medicine, clinical audit, and the value of placebos
Suggests ways in which future research should be modelled and which are the key issues to address.
