A lady fish-vendor coming to terms with the reality of life, a boy from the Maidan seeking his own moorings, an old man finding solace in digging the earth for his lost son, or a quirky character loitering in a market complex looking for a parcel that is never to arrive...The collection of fifteen short stories in The Cloudmaker predominantly deals with the theme of loss in human life. Its characters use loss as a philosophical journey to overcome their inner turmoil. For them loss is not an unsettling experience, rather it is as much a part of their everyday living. In facing loss there is an understated heroism in each of them - a spirit that never loses a mission. For anyone wishing to keep the never-say-die spirit enlivened, 'The Cloudmaker' is an immensely encouraging read in its truest sense.
