Cocker Spaniels Today (Book of the Breed)

The Cocker Spaniel is the most popular of the Spaniel family, and this active, happy breed has endeared itself to dog-lovers worldwide. All Spaniels worked to the gun, with the smaller dogs being used to hunt woodcock and the larger dogs used for springing game. Eventually the Springer Spaniels and the Woodcock or Cocker Spaniels evolved as separate breeds. Today, the Cocker Spaniel is still used as a gundog, but its chief attraction is as a delightful and affectionate family pet, and as an exuberant show dog. In this highly comprehensive Book of the Breed, the author gives a brief account of the Cocker Spaniel's history, highlighting the leading kennels and Champion dogs that have influenced the breed. The Breed Standard is analyzed, illustrated with top-quality line-drawings, and there is a detailed guide to coat care for both the pet and the show Cocker.
