About the Author:
Shelley C. Safian
Dr. Shelley C. Safian has been teaching Health Care Administration, Health
Information Management, and Medical Billing and Coding, both onsite and online, for
more than 15 years.
Safian writes a monthly Q&A column for the online publication JustCoding and
writes several articles each year on various aspects of coding. In addition, she is the
author of six textbooks. Her newest book, Foundations of Health Care Administration,
was released January 2014.
Safian is in her fourth year as the chair of the continuing education committee for
FHIMA (Florida Health Information Management Association). In the past, she has
served on several committees and practice councils on the national, state, and local
levels of the American Health Information Management Association.
She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Certified
Coding Specialist (CCS-P), a Certified Professional Coder (CPC-H, CPC-I), and an
ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer.
