The Code Switch (Paperback or Softback)

Can two best friends remain friends when they're both determined to become valedictorian?

Keisha and Lavender are among the brightest students at ABC School. Both are honor students, natural leaders, and strong contenders for valedictorian. But while they share the same goal, they have very different ways of expressing themselves.

Keisha speaks with the informal language she learned from family and friends, while Lavender prefers Standard English and often finds herself rephrasing Keisha's words. What begins as a difference in communication slowly creates tension as the competition for the school's highest academic honor heats up.

As leaders in student council, the girls work together on important school projects, including a campaign to encourage healthier food choices for their classmates. Balancing academics, leadership responsibilities, and growing pressure from the valedictorian race proves challenging for both girls.

Along the way, Keisha and Lavender learn valuable lessons about friendship, respect, self-expression, and the power of understanding different perspectives.

The Code Switch is an engaging middle-grade novel that explores language, identity, academic achievement, and leadership. Through relatable characters and realistic school experiences, readers are encouraged to celebrate their own voices while respecting the voices of others.

Perfect for classroom discussions, book clubs, and family reading, The Code Switch opens the door to meaningful conversations about communication, confidence, friendship, and what it truly means to be a leader.
