Synopsis

At the beginning of this sci-fi novel a young woman is wondering how it can be that she is dead and alive at the same time. As it turns out, there is an explanation. On her journey to that explanation she visits places and is confronted by scenarios that physicists and philosophers alike would love to encounter and that will make many readers scratch their heads in amazement. This novel is thought-provoking and entertaining. It is also very funny. Woven into the plot are ideas about different realities. There is our day to day reality, which we are all familiar with and accept as a natural part of our existence. Then there are other realities, which most of us never seriously considered. These are realities which physicists, philosophers, theologians, and writers—ranging from Albert Einstein, David Hume, Arthur Schopenhauer, Paul Tillich and Heraclitus of Ephesus to Leo Tolstoy—have been struggling with for centuries. Below are some of the questions these people have asked. What is real? Is the reality of the world different from how we perceive and experience it in our minds? Does physical reality exist apart from the human mind? Can consciousness exist without the body? Can pure thought have an impact on physical reality? Is everything that happens predetermined? Having said that, this novel does not try to answer these questions. Woven into the plot are scenarios which one day could be part of our world if scientists manage to access and make practical use of different realities. This may happen one day—or not. We don’t know.
