Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) emerges as a possible new modality for cancer treatment. This book provides a comprehensive introduction into fundamentals of the CAP and plasma devices used in plasma medicine. An analysis of the mechanisms of plasma interaction with cancer and normal cells including description of possible mechanisms of plasma selectivity is included. Recent advances in the field, the primary challenges and future directions are presented.

About the Author
Michael Keidar is the A. James Clark Professor of Engineering at George Washington University. His research concerns advanced spacecraft propulsion, plasma-based nanotechnology, and plasma medicine. He has authored over 260 journal articles and is the author of the book Plasma Engineering: from Aerospace and Nano and Bio technology. He received 2017 Davidson award in plasma physics. In 2016 he received AIAA Engineer of the Year award for his work on micropropulsion resulted in successful launch of nanosatellite with thrusters developed by his laboratory.
Dr. Dayun Yan obtained his M.S degree (Mechanical Engineering) from Tsinghua University. After that, he worked as a research assistant in the State Key Laboratory of Tribology for two years. He later obtained his Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering) at the George Washington University in 2016 under the supervision of Dr. Keidar, and then began his postdoctoral training there. His current research focuses on several core problems in plasma medicine, such as the activation phenomenon during the direct cold plasma effect on cancer cells.
Jonathan H. Sherman, MD, FAANS, FACS is a neurosurgeon, associate professor, director of surgical neuro-oncology, and director of stereotactic radiosurgery at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Virginia. Following completion of residency, he completed a fellowship in surgical neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. His clinical interests include primary and metastatic brain tumors.
