Colditz: 1972 (The Colditz BBC TV Book Series)

Colditz: 1972

“Oh, I don’t think so,” I said, catching on to their collective thinking. “Just because I was cast as Pat Grant, escape officer, doesn’t mean I know anything about escaping. Yes, I can organise a brilliant picnic, I could possibly organise a Rotary Club dinner and dance, but escape and evasion? Not on your nelly.”

When the cast of the popular 1970s series Colditz find themselves incarcerated in Colditz Castle during the Cold War, history repeats itself thirty years on.

Life imitates art as our heroes embark on a journey to uncover the real-life methods necessary to escape and evade in occupied East Germany.

Can Jack Hedley shape his platoon of fellow actors into escape and evasion experts?

Will the actors we know and love rise to the greatest acting challenge of their careers, pulling on the skills of the characters they’ve studied and their knowledge of the heroes of the World War Two prisoner population at Colditz?

Can finely honed thespian techniques and Christopher Neame’s passion for immersing himself in his role save the day or will Hedley, Neame, Hardwicke, McCallum, Heffer, Chapman, Penry-Jones and Wagner be interred at Colditz Castle for the remainder of their days?

Will Hepton, Valentine and Meyer choose to unite with the ‘British contingent’ in hopes of emancipation?

Find out in Colditz: 1972 as Edward Hardwicke relates the events of the most extraordinary trip he ever took.

Whatever happens, it’ll be the performance of a lifetime.

Take a walk back in time to the ’70s as the cast of the greatest TV series ever made boogie on down to Colditz—it’s far out, man.

Colditz: 1972 is the third in a series of books by the same author. Colditz: Home Run and its sequel, Missing: Presumed Escaped, introduce a brand-new feature-length episode of the original TV series in keeping with the familiar characters and settings that we all know and love. The story begins in November 1943 when the Colditz Escape Committee’s greatest plan to date is masterminded and put into action.
