Reilly and Lee, Chicago, IL. c1934, undated but the Memorial Edition was published in 1959 and was the 15th Edition, so this being the 17th Edition, and having a gift inscription date of 1965, 1965 is my best guess. Hardcover. Stated 17th Edition after the first edition in 1934. Book is tight, square, and is unmarked but for a gift inscription on the FFFP. Book Condition: Good; sunfading to spine with a moisture spot that does not penetrate, light shelfwear. No DJ. Burgundy cloth boards and spine with gilt lettering and decorations on the spine; signature in gilt on the front board. 937 pp 8vo. From 1931 to 1942, Guest broadcast a weekly program on NBC radio. In 1951, "A Guest in Your Home" appeared on NBC TV. He published more than twenty volumes of poetry and was thought to have written over 11,000 poems. Guest has been called "the poet of the people." Most often, his poems were fourteen lines long and presented a deeply sentimental view of everyday life. He considered himself "a newspaper man who wrote verses." Of his poem he said, "I take simple everyday things that happen to me and I figure it happens to a lot of other people and I make simple rhymes out of them." Edgar Guest died on August 5, 1959.
