Overall a good collection, mostly clean throughout but with foxing in various degrees to many of the engravings; cloth bindings of the Life of Scott remain green but the rest have faded to brown. An earlier owner (Robert Alfred Rackham) wrote the following slightly peevish note by way of explanation on the front paste-down of the 40th volume of the Waverley novels, "A rascal at Aylsham having stolen the XLth volume of my set in 1859 I got this in its place the engravings are not on steel as in lost vol." This collection came from Lord Lothian's library at Ferniehirst Castle and was a private gift to the previous owner. Seller Inventory # 2321
