8vo, all in wrappers or self-wrappers, all but one with a presentation inscription from Jessen to the runic archaeologist George Stephens (1813-1895). Includes three titles on the rune stones, one on orthography and several others on grammar and language. Jessen (1833-1921) was "a Danish linguist, the grandson of Carl Wilhelm Jessen. He became a Doctor of Philosophy in 1862. He was an original and astute researcher, who largely went his own way, often in strong and sharp opposition to authority and established opinions. His writing, mostly journal articles, mainly deals with Nordic language history, phonetics, literature and metrics" (peoplepill[dot]com). Jessen became a Doctor of Philosophy in 1862.
