In good condition. Vellum remains bright and clean with minor defects. Two small blue pen marks on front board of volume III. Light wear to each volume with minor bumping to corners. Gilt finishing bright and clean. Lovely floral wreaths decorate each volume. Marbled endpapers clean and unmarked. Text blocks lightly toned, free of markings or foxing. Blue silk bookmarkers are all in tact with light fading at ends. Nicely preserved overall. Nearly very good. Please see photos. Tauchnitz was the name of a family of German printers and publishers. They published English language literature for distribution on the European continent outside of Great Britain, including initial serial productions of Charles Dickens. Though copyright protection did not exist between nations in the 19th century, Tauchnitz paid the authors for the works they published, and agreed to limit their sales of English-language books to the European continent, as authors like Dickens and Bulwer-Lytton had separate arrangements for publication and sale in Great Britain.
