A collection of six Real Photo Post Card albums (7" x 5"). Each album contains about 50 postcards laid into corner-slotted paper leaves: a total of approximately 275 gelatin silver postcards and 25 in color. Several intermittent postcards throughout the collection are captioned in pencil. All six albums are bound in flexible cloth covers with a color art nouveau pictorial design stamped on the front cover. Laid-in are three gelatin silver prints (4�" x 6�"). The boards are moderately toned and darkened, two albums have a few detached leaves at the front of each album (all are present), else very good or better overall, with the postcards in fine condition. A remarkable collection of images taken out and about Chipley, Florida (the county seat of Washington County, located between Tallahassee and Pensacola), dating from circa 1905 through the 1910s. The albums feature images of both wealthy landowners and sharecroppers, including both black and white families of various social classes. All of the images were taken outdoors, featuring informal, vernacular snapshots of both individuals and small groups of family members at home or at work harvesting sugar, cotton, or corn; logging tropical gum trees or tending to cattle and hogs. There are several images of people on horseback, including an African-American man with his delivery wagon. Among the houses, both small and large, is the home of William Oscar Butler (on the National Register of Historic Places), an early banker and merchant in Chipley. The collection also includes 25 commercial color postcards depicting images of Tallahassee, St. Augustine, Sanford, and other places in Florida. A visually appealing and historically important collection, containing over 250 original photographs made into Real Photo postcards.
