Simon, a French-born wine merchant, gourmet, and prolific writer about wine. A Short-Title Catalogue of Household and Cookery Books Published in the English Tongue 1701-1800, 1981. First edition. A record of all books on household affairs and cookery published in English between 1701 and 1800, for the study of historians and sociologists, alongside those concerned with the technology of food and gastronomy. Compiled by Virginia Maclean, an English scholar in food and beverage studies. All volumes are bound in the original full cloth binding other than Receipt Book and Household Manual which is bound in the original quarter cloth with paper boards. Externally, very smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd small mark. Minor sunning to the board edges of Receipt Book and Household Manual. All volumes other than Receipt Book and Household Manual contain the original unclipped dust wrappers. Wrappers are also smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd small mark. The odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper. Near Fine.
