About this Item
A smart uniformly bound collection of works from English Poet Laureate, Alfred Tennyson. Sixteen volumes. Written by Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson, an English poet who was the Poet Laureate during much of Queen Victoria's reign. Although described by some critics as overly sentimental, his poems ultimately proved popular and brought Tennyson to the attention of well-known writers of the day. A number of phrases from his work have become commonplace in the English language, so much so that he is the ninth most frequently quoted writer in The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. This collection contains: Enoch Arden Etc., 1869. Idylls of the King, 1869. The Holy Grail, 1870. Maud and Other Poems, 1870. Gareth and Lynette, 1872. The Princess: A Medley, 1866. In Memoriam, 1870. Ballads and Other Poems, 1880. Early printing. A Lover's Tale, 1879. Demeter and Other Poems, 1889. Tiresias and Other Poems, 1885. Locksley Hall: Sixty Years After Etc., 1886. The Cup and The Falcon, 1884. The Foresters: Robin Hood and Maid Marian, 1892. Poems, 1893. The Death of Oenone, Akbar's Dream, and other Poems, 1892. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine of The Holy Grail. Minor discolouration and the odd small stain to the cloth. Front hinge starting but firm to The Holy Grail and In Memoriam. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the front endpapers. Bookseller's blind stamp to the front endpaper of Enoch Arden. An ink stamp and previous owner's blind stamp to the title page of Idylls of the King. A small cut to the front free endpaper of Demeter and Other Poems. Bookseller's bookplate to the front pastedown of The Death of Oenone. Very Good.
