A superb value-for-money anthology of English Verse, ranging from Kingsley Amis to Benjamin Zepahniah.
This new great value-for-money collection of classic verse incorporates many old favourites from old masters such as Keats and Shakespeare, Wordsworth and Coleridge, but also includes some surprises along the way: little-known gems from neglected geniuses such as William Soutar and UA Fanthorpe are here, as well as one-off masterpieces such as Leo Marks' great love poem 'The Life That I Have' (the poem that Violet Szabo took into Occupied France), and George Orwell's definitive 30s poem, 'A Happy Vicar I Might Have Been.' Ranging as it does from the fierce satire of Defoe’s ‘True-Born Englishman’ to the tender love poetry of Byron’s Hebrew Melodies, from the comic verse of Don Marquis’s archy and mehitabel to the stately music of Marvell’s Horatian Ode, the Collins Book of English Verse will become the one authoritative collection of poetry for home or study.
