Color, Race, and English Language Teaching: Shades of Meaning is intended for researchers, professionals, and students in the field of English language teaching. The book is designed as a text for MATESOL programs and courses that deal with issues of language, culture, and teaching. The introduction presents a brief overview of relevant aspects of Critical Race Theory, narrative inquiry, and educational research. Focus questions for each chapter are included to help readers apply aspects of the narratives to their own experience.

About the Author

Andy Curtishas a Ph.D. in International Education and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from the University of York, England. He is the Executive Director of the Queen’s University School of English in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and a professor in the Department of Language Teacher Education at the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont. In 2001, with Kathi Bailey and David Nunan, he wrotePursuing Professional Development: The Self as Source, and in 2004, he co-editedWashback in Language Testing: Research Contexts and Methods, with Liying Cheng and Yoshinori Watanabe. He has published more than 70 papers and articles, given more than 100 international presentations, and worked with language teachers and learners in Europe, Asia, North, South and Central America.
