About this Item
30x25 cm. Original stamped cloth with title gilt on front board. Excellent condition. Edges marbled. [16] pp., 47 hand-colored maps. A very rare Colton atlas which contains a very important map, Colton's Map of Nebraska, Dakota and Montana. Wheat 1100: "The mention of Montana has led to the particular map's being termed 'the first map of Montana." This map also shows all of Colorado and New Mexico, even though they are not mentioned in the title. Rumsey 3488: "Notwithstanding the title, this normally has 47 maps. . These are the same maps that are used in Colton's Octavo Atlas of the World, but in quarto, unfolded." Phillips P845. Seller Inventory # a00259
