101x67 cm. Folding map with original cloth covers, front cover detached. Fair condition, with extensive mending, including mends of full splits along two horizontal folds. In spite of these splits, there is only minimal loss from chipping along the folds or at fold junctions. Full color by county, faded. While the tears have been mended with archival tape, this would be a strong candidate for full professional restoration. This is a beautiful map of the coast of North Carolina with many vignettes of ships in the ocean and Pamplico Sound. A smaller inset map, "Plan of the Sea Coast from Virginia to Florida" at the bottom shows the coast in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia and northern Florida. This is among the most detailed and attractive maps produced during the American Civil War, showing the locations of the naval war and the Peninsula campaign. Stephenson 304.85.
