Synopsis

Various diseases are caused by micro-organisms in the human beings. There are various ways to treat different types of infectious diseases. Plant based medicines are used for treatment of wide varieties of diseases for thousands of years. Antibiotics are widely used to treat various infectious diseases, but its indiscriminate use has developed the resistance of the micro-organisms. Studies indicates that the efficacy of antibiotics/antimicrobial agents can be improved by combining them with crude plant extracts or active constituents against different pathogens. Combination of various plant extracts or its active constituents with antibiotics is novel concept to fight against resistance problem of micro-organisms. The synergistic effect from the combination of antibiotics with plant extracts or active constituents against resistant micro-organisms may lead to new ways for the treatment of infectious diseases. Thus, combination therapy may be beneficial for human beings.
