El valenciano Guill�n de Castro, dramaturgo de la escuela lopista, public� en su Primera y Segunda parte de las comedias de don Guillem de Castro (en 1618 y 1625) dos piezas inspiradas en el Quijote y una en las Novelas Ejemplares. La comedia de Don Quijote de la Mancha, a pesar del t�tulo, escenifica solo los cap�tulos 23 a 36. Se trata de los episodios que tratan los amores de Cardenio, Luscinda, Fernando y Dorotea. En principio, el papel de Don Quijote en esta obra es menor. Sin embargo, Guill�n de Castro nos muestra el fruto de su atenta lectura de la primera parte del Quijote, e incorpora los fragmentos m�s llamativos. El ingenioso hidalgo de Guill�n de Castro est� tambi�n obsesionado por el mundo caballeresco y sufre un desdoblamiento de personalidad. Unos lacayos del Marqu�s le han apaleado dej�ndole maltrecho en la Jornada I. Entonces empieza a imaginar que es Valdovinos y a recitar unos versos del Romance viejo del Marqu�s de Mantua. La escena es calcada del cap�tulo 5 cervantino. Asimismo, en la Jornada III introduce el episodio de la penitencia en Sierra Morena (cap�tulo 25 de Cervantes). En �l hace a su protagonista lamentar la ausencia de Dulcinea imitando a Amad�s convertido en Beltenebros.

Guill�n de Castro (Valencia, 1569-Madrid, 1631). Espa�a. Fue capit�n de caballer�a, gobernador de Scigliano en N�poles y en Madrid secretario del marqu�s de Pe�afiel. Muy cercano a Lope de Vega, form� parte de la Academia de los nocturnos, la �nica academia que public� en actas los poemas discutidos durante sus reuniones semanales y que radic� en Valencia entre 1591 y 1593. Muri� en la pobreza y un tanto olvidado.
