Collated from Jisc from a copy held at the University of Birmingham Libraries.Terence was a Roman African playwright active during the Roman Republic, originally being brought to Rome as a slave before being freed due to his impressive literary abilities. His plays were incredibly important, used in the teaching of the Latin language during the Middle Ages and Renaissance.The comedies are written in a unique simple conversational Latin, in a clear and entertaining language.Translated into French by Anne Dacier, a notable scholar known for his translations and commentary on classical works. In the original calf binding. Externally, generally smart. Minor bumping to the spines and extremities. Some rubbing and marks to the boards and spines, with light surface cracks to the spines. Volume II is lacking the spine label, label of Volume I is torn lacking half. Numerical ink to the front paste down of Volume I, ink to the recto to the front endpaper of Volumes II and III, and to the front paste down of Volume III. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots. Volume II bound without pages 481-485. Good.
