William Minto speculated that Chapman is the unnamed Rival Poet of Shakespeare's sonnets, but he is best remembered for his translations of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. Volume one contains a memoir of the author, The Blinde Begger of Alexandria, An Humerous Dayes Mirth, All Fooles, Monsieur D'Olive, The Gentleman Usher, and notes. Volume two contains Bussy D'Ambois, The Revenge of Bussy D'Ambois, The Conspiracie and Tragedie of Charles Duke of Byron, May-Day, and notes. Volume three contains The Widdowes Tears, The Masque of the Middle Temple and Lincolns Inne, The Tragedy of Caesar and Pompey, The Tragedy of Alphonsus Emperour of Germany, Revenge for Honour, notes, and an index. Bound in full green cloth. Externally, smart with minor rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spines with loss to the spine labels. A small mark to the front board of volume two. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the endpapers. With some of the text block remaining unopened. Very Good.
