"This book is the fruit of my desire to perform simultaneously two feats impossible to perform simultaneously, two feats that could not even be performed separately, by myself: to write the next Commedia, and to bring forth a volume whose every page would remain pure of the word “God.” Needless to say, the more I tried to exclude this latter from my concerns, the more I was haunted by Him.
