The Comedy Of Convocation In The English Church, In Two Scenes (1868)

""The Comedy of Convocation in the English Church, in Two Scenes"" is a book written by Arthur Featherstone Marshall and published in 1868. The book is a satirical play that pokes fun at the Church of England and the convocation, which is the assembly of bishops and clergy that governs the church. The play is divided into two scenes, each of which depicts a meeting of the convocation. In the first scene, the members of the convocation argue over trivial matters and engage in petty bickering. In the second scene, they are visited by a group of women who disrupt the meeting and expose the hypocrisy and moral failings of the church leaders. The book is a commentary on the state of the Church of England in the 19th century, and it critiques the church's lack of progress and its resistance to change. The play is humorous and entertaining, but it also raises important questions about the role of the church in society and the need for reform. Overall, ""The Comedy of Convocation in the English Church, in Two Scenes"" is a witty and insightful work that offers a unique perspective on the history of the Church of England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
