Not dated. Circa late 1890s. Name and address inside dated 1911. Edition and printing not known. In quite good quarter black cloth and light brown cloth with central black field with seated woman and child to front. The boards have collapsed hollow and are a little loose; shelf-cocked; slightly marked; corners and spine ends bumped and frayed. Lightly foxed free end papers; name, address and date in ink on front free end paper. Very tanned cut edges; the fore and top edges are deckled. The text block is quite firm and straight, with small marks throughout. Good condition. Title-page in red and black with John Leech image called 'The Mother of the Gracchi. In the text, steel engravings, in colour and b/w; and other smaller b/w illustrations by John Leech. All the illustrations have titles and listed in Contents pages. Without jacket.

Clevedon Community Bookshop, co-operatively owned, opened on 31 December 2011 and now has a general stock of approximately 20,000 books. Our Bookshop is in Copse Road in Clevedon and is open every day of the week except Mondays, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The Bookshop Co-operative comprises nearly 650 members from around the world and was set up to stop the only second-hand bookshop in our town from closing. The benefit of being a member/shareholder is only social: no-one benefits financially. All profits are used to improve the bookshop and its stock, and, through events, to contribute to the literacy and literary profile of our town. Shipping terms
We pack our books in corrugated book wrap or book boxes. We try to respond to orders the same day as we receive them or during the next business day. Shipping costs are based on books weighing up to 1.1 lb, or 0.5KG. If your book order is particularly heavy or oversized, we may contact you to request an additional payment to cover extra postage costs.
