El Sue�o de Escipi�n de Cicer�n (seg�n Ell�mire Zolla, la Bhagavad Ghita de occidente) es un breve tratado de impronta pitag�rica en el que se presenta a un Cornelio Escipi�n que, antes de la destrucci�n de Cartago, visita en una visi�n/sue�o, como si de un vuelo cham�nico se tratara, a Escipi�n el Africano. �ste le muestra la composici�n del universo y le insta a afrontar la guerra con �nimo m�stico, a practicar las virtudes y a desapegarse de la gloria terrena.

Un denso enigma invade la figura de Macrobio. Su comentario filos�fico del relato ciceroniano se inscribe dentro del neoplatonismo propio de su tiempo, siendo Plat�n, Plotino y Porfirio los autores m�s citados.

Una cuidada estructura rige su comentario, ordenado a partir de las citas literales del relato de Cicer�n, que contienen unos dos tercios de la obra.

En un sentido semejante a los cultos mist�ricos y a los or�culos caldeos, Macrobio concibi� las almas individuales como esp�ritus ca�dos desde las esferas superiores en la materia.
