A Commentary on Kant's Critick of the Pure Reason, Tr. from the History of Modern Philosophy, With Explanatory Notes by J.P. Mahaffy

A Commentary On Kant's Critick Of The Pure Reason, Tr. From The History Of Modern Philosophy, With Explanatory Notes By J.P. Mahaffy by Ernst Kuno B. Fischer. This English-language introduction and commentary renders Kant's Critique accessible, defending his critical method and tracing the development of his system. It presents the fourfold methodology—discipline, canon, architectonics, and history—and shows how pure reason is to be disciplined for both the theoretical realm of nature and the practical realm of freedom. The book surveys Kantian epistemology (sensitivity, understanding, reason; phenomena and noumena; categories and schemata; synthetic a priori judgments) and the practical postulates (freedom, morality, faith) along with the regulative use of ideas, the antinomies, teleology, and the transcendental dialectic. Appendices cover the deduction of the categories and clarifications on noumena and phenomena. By situating Kant amid earlier rationalists and later critics, the work argues for a coherent, critical path in the history of modern philosophy.
