The cost advantages of such cost-intensive operations may be slight compared to one-stop services. However, ultra long-haul routes are likely to make up for it in market positioning by targeting premium customer segments with lower price sensitivity, one of the main drivers of the profitability of the 21st century airline business.

About the Author

The author Linus Benjamin Bauer has been working in the aviation industry since 2011. He has worked for several airline companies, including Etihad Airways and Singapore Airlines. In 2019, he graduated with an MSc in Air Transport Management from the City University of London in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and was honoured with a prize for his outstanding academic achievements personally by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates. Bauer is currently working as an independent consultant in the commercial aviation industry and doing his PhD degree in Air Transport Management. Since July 2019, he is also a member of the Visiting Lecturer team in Air Transport Management at the City University of London.
