Le Commissionnaire De La Ligue D'outre-Rhin: Ou, Le Messager Nocturne. by Amédée Doppet. This work presents a first-person account of the émigré networks and counter-revolutionary plots that swirled around French exiles across Europe. Narrated by a former courier for aristocratic circles, the text recounts journeys through Turin, Chambéry, Rome, Vienna, Madrid, and beyond, detailing escapades, disguises, romances, and conspiracies aimed at undermining the French Revolution and reasserting old hierarchies. It offers a vivid panorama of exile politics, the intrigues of priests and nobles, and the economics of emigration, all delivered with satire and frank self-confession. Structured as a series of numbered installments, it blends memoir, social critique, and polemic as it exposes the methods and motives of émigrés and their supporters. The author presents a reflective narrative that culminates in a call for unity and constitutional fidelity, while recounting the paradoxes and foibles of the counter-revolutionary enterprise.
