This book features selected papers from the International Conference on Communication and Applied Technologies (ICOMTA 2021), jointly organized by Universidad del Rosario (Bogotá, Colombia); the University of Vigo (Galicia, Spain); the University of Santiago de Compostela-Equipo de Investigaciones Políticas (Galicia, Spain); the University of A Coruńa (Galicia, Spain); and the Information and Technology Management Association (ITMA), during September 2021. It covers recent advances in the field of digital communication and processes digital social media, software, big data, data mining, and intelligent systems.
Álvaro Rocha holds the title of Honorary Professor, and holds a D.Sc. in Information Science, Ph.D. in Information Systems and Technologies, M.Sc. in Information Management, and B.Cs. in Computer Science. He is a professor of Information Systems at the University of Lisbon – ISEG, and a researcher at the ADVANCE (the ISEG Centre for Advanced Research in Management. He is also the president of AISTI (the Iberian Association for Information Systems and Technologies), chair of the IEEE Portugal Section Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society Chapter, and editor-in-chief of both JISEM (Journal of Information Systems Engineering & Management) and RISTI (Iberian Journal of Information Systems and Technologies). Moreover, he has served as a vice-chair of Experts for the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program, and as an expert at the COST - intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology, at the Government of Italy’s Ministry of Universities and Research, atthe Government of Latvia’s Ministry of Finance, at the Government of Mexico's National Council of Science and Technology, and at the Government of Polish's National Science Centre.
Daniel Barredo Ibáńez is an associate professor in the Journalism and Public Opinion program of the Universidad del Rosario (Colombia) and a director of the Journalism Laboratory of the same institution. He is currently the coordinator of the Working Group on Digital Communication, Networks, and Processes of the Latin American Association of Communication Researchers. In addition, he is a visiting researcher at the Fudan Development Institute at Fudan University (China). He has written more than 100 works on topics related to social media, political participation, organizational discourse or communication in Spain, Colombia, Mexico, or Ecuador. He has a Ph.D. in Journalism from the University of Malaga, a master's degree and expert in Communication, and a degree in Hispanic Philology and AudiovisualCommunication from the University of Granada, and has an H index of 14 and is accredited as a senior researcher, the highest qualification granted by the Science Ministery of Colombia.
Paulo Carlos López-López is a professor and researcher in the Department of Political Science and Sociology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), Ph.D. in Communication, journalist, and political scientist. He is a member of the International Research Network on Communication Management, the Political Research Team of the USC, and the Iberian Association of Information Systems and Technologies. He has published more than sixty scientific papers on topics such as communication, social media, and political science. He was the director of the group "Media, Applied Technologies, and Communication" and the director of a postgraduate degree in Political Communication in Ecuador. He was awarded the Drago 2019 research award for his study on transparency and has work experience on electoralcampaigns, organizational communication, press office, and parliament management. He has an H Index of 7 and is an accredited professor in the category Contracted Doctor by the Quality Department of the Galician University System (ACSUG).
Iván Puentes Rivera is Ph.D. in Communication, a master in Research in Communication, and a graduate in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Vigo; he is a professor in the Area of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising at the University of A Coruńa (UDC) and a member of the research group CP2: Persuasive Communication of the University of Vigo, as well as the technical secretary of XESCOM (International Network for Research in Communication Management). His main lines of research focus on political communication and electoral campaigns, public relations in this field, disinformation, and fact-checking in political debate and electoral debates on television. Along with this, he also highlights his research work in relation to public television and, in particular, about transparency in radio and television broadcasters of this type.
