The Company We Keep: An Intimate Celebration of Opera Australia

An illustrated celebration of Opera Australia, described by Richard Hickox as one of the world s last great ensemble opera companies, compiled on the eve of its 50th anniversary. Writer Annarosa Berman and photographer Bridget Elliot take readers on a fascinating journey as they follow a selection of OA's productions in Sydney, Melbourne and on tour with OzOpera in Tasmania. A lively and informative text is complemented by intimate black and white photographs to evoke a frenetic, creative world that showcases the working lives of musicians and principal artists, chorus members, mechanists, costumiers and wigmakers as well as those in the business of opera. This compelling behind-the-scenes account of the characters and the range of expertise and talent they contribute to the ensemble's success, serves to remind us of the challenges that confront the arts in Australia and as a tribute to those who provide the support required to ensure OA s next fifty years. 245 pages.
