First published in 1796, this work contains the complete texts of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, along with summaries of the state constitutions. This was the definitive map of American law at the time providing a unique side-by-side analysis of how the original states adapted federal principles to their own local needs representing the very birth of comparative constitutionalism in America. Cohen notes: "According to Sabin, this edition has been revised to such an extent that it is almost a different work from the earlier one." The second edition is scarce.
