Not illustrated. 1833 Excerpt: ...CHAP. XXVI. PARTICIPLES. Verbs bave Four Participles. Two of tlw Active voice, viz. Participle of the Present tense, and First Future: and two of the Passive voice, viz. Participle of the Preter tense and Second Future. Of these four Participles there are but two of determinate or limited termination; viz. the Participle of the Preter tense, and that of the Second Future. 1. The Participle of the Present tense, which in English ends in ing, is made in Welsh by putting yn or gan before the infinitive mood of the verb; as, yn dysgn, learning; gan ddywedyd, saying. This Participle is of all genders and numbers. 2. The Participle of the first or active future, which in English betokens to do, like the infinitive mood, active, is likewise made in Welsh by putting arfedr before the infinitive mood of the Welsh verb; as, arfedr dywedyd, about to speak; arfedr ysgrifenu, about to write. This Participle also is of all genders and numbers..3. The Participles of the Preter tense, which in English end in d, t, or n, are made in Welsh by adding edig to the radix of each verb's formation; as, cdr, caredig; dysg, dysgedig; lladd, lladdedig. Or is otherwise made by putting wedi before the infinitive mood; as, wedi ei ddysgu, taught; wedi ei ladd, slain. 4. The Participle of the second or passive future, which in English betokens to suffer, like the infinitive mood passive, is made iu Welsh by adding adwy to the radix of the verb; as, ysgrifen, ysgrifenadwy; car, caradwy; to be, or which may be, must, or ought to be, written These two latter Participles are by some said to have the plural number: as, caredig, caredigion; caradwy, caradwyon.
