Compendious Syriac Grammar (Ancient Language Resources)

This translation of Noldeke's 'Kurzgefasste syrische Grammatik,' a lucid description of Syriac orthography and phonology (I), morphology (II), and syntax (III), is undeniably one of the major achievements of Syriac studies in the nineteenth century. Since then, the book has admirably served generations of students.

Theodor Noldeke (1836-1930) was a linguist, historian, biblical scholar, and Islamicist of the highest caliber. He taught at the universities of Gottingen, Kiel, and Strasbourg. Among his many publications are 'Mandaean Grammar', 'Sketches from Eastern History', 'The Iranian National Epic', 'Geschichte des Qorans', 'Die alttestamentliche Literatur', and 'Zur Grammatik des classischen Arabisch'.
