The second volume of a two-volume compendium of scientific knowledge by Christian Wolff (1679-1754), a well-known German philosopher and scientist. In this volume he explains basic principles of astronomy, geography, chronology, gnomonics, pyrotechnics, military architecture, civil architecture and algebra. The copy contains a complete set of 24 fold-out plates with copper engravings related to astronomy, gnomonics and architecture. The title page features a woodcut vignette; other pages are decorated with headpieces, tailpieces and initials.
