Competitive Struggle is THE definitive work on this complex and little-understood period in Western history. RG Robertson has taken the confusion out of the development of the major fur companies by his easily-understood flow charts of their mergers and purchases.
RG Robertson tells the stories of visionaries and scoundrels, while making sense out of the economic trends which first built then destroyed an entire industry. He traces this colorful century through Indian factories and trading posts, using a dictionary format for ease of reader usage and cross-referencing the names of the forts. A complete set of maps, bibliography, index, and end notes allow readers and researchers to fully explore the subject.
A native of Michigan, RG Robertson has a BA and MBA from the University of Michigan. He was a US Marine Corps officer in the Vietnam War and, afterwards, worked as a stockbroker in San Francisco and as a Pacific Stock Exchange options market maker. His first book, Idaho Echoes in Time (1998), has been a successful regional title, going through two printings in the first six months. Robertson now spends his time researching and writing books and articles, as well as traveling, skiing, backpacking, and mountain climbing. He is also a member of Western Writers of America.
