A unique compilation of 75 French Baroque and Rococo interior design engravings. This volume is a rare and comprehensive compilation of 75 engravings, including six folding plates, that showcase baroque and early Rococo interior paneling, architectural details, and furniture designs from the late 17th to early 18th centuries. It provides a detailed view into the interior decor of the period, reflecting the opulence of luxurious homes, palaces, and grand estates. The engravings include a range of architectural elements such as doors, windows, buffet cabinets, bookcases, fireplaces, and armorials illustrating the transition from the richly adorned baroque style to the more elaborate Rococo. The majority of the engravings are by Jean Mariette (1660 1742), a key figure in publishing architectural and interior design engravings during this period. Many plates in this volume are from his publications, L'Architecture ŕ la Mode and L'Architecture Françoise, which played a significant role in spreading French architectural styles throughout Europe. The collection features works, including six folding plates, by Pierre-Edme Babel (1720 1775), known for his precise engravings of architectural elements. It also includes plates by André Basset (Basset de Jeune), featuring four plates showing pairs of commodes, and two decorative engravings by Mariette after designs by Louis Dorigny (1654 1742). Other engravers represented include Nicolas Bonnart I and Nicolas II Langlois, both of whom contributed to the dissemination of French architectural and decorative styles through their prints. The designs in this compilation are based on the works of several prominent French architects and decorators from the Baroque and early Rococo periods. Jean-Baptiste Le Roux (1677 1746), known for his publication Nouveaux lambris de galeries, chambres et cabinets, introduced new designs for paneling in galleries, rooms, and cabinets, some of which are reflected in the engravings included here. Armand-Claude Mollet significantly shaped French architecture and interior decoration during the transition from Baroque to Rococo, leaving a clear impact on the styles represented in this collection. François Blondel (1618 1686), a noted architect, influenced the evolution of Baroque design in France, and his principles are evident in the classical elements and proportions of some engravings. Bullet de Chamblin, another designer featured in this collection, is recognized for his detailed and dynamic engravings of architectural details. Nicolas Pineau (1684 1754), a key figure in the development of the Rococo style in France, made substantial contributions to interior decoration, particularly in carved paneling and ornament, which are well represented in the engravings gathered here.
