Elected by council, the role required the person chosen to be the chairman of the council, and the figurehead of the town.Providing a diverting look at the political legal processes of Elgin.The first report covers a petition and complaint of Thomas Stephen, John Laing, and Alexander Brander, against John Duff, Robert Leslie, James Anderson, and John Jamieson, in 1772.The second report covers a petition of Thomas Stephen, and others, against Inner-House Interlocutor, in 1793.The third report covers a process of declarator of Thomas Stephen, and others, against Alexander Brander. In a half reverse calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the boards. Very minor bumping to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. The occasional ink note to the margins. Very Good.
