Small 4to. 8.5 x 11 inches. Black half-calf & marbled boards, spine gilt. Large mss. title pasted to front cover: "Coloured Atlas". Wear to spine and edges, lower cover detached, very good. The maps are bright and fresh for the most part, some light foxing and wear to the folds on the large folding ones. Thirty-four maps, three are folding (two large), and one is a plate of an Armillary Sphere. Colouring on all maps, the two large folding ones in outline only. The 1840 map of the United States ["States of America"], depicts it bordered by the Mississippi River on the west, with "Franklinia" named within Tennessee, a truncated Ohio south of Lake Erie, and Georgia stretching from the Atlantic to the Mississippi. Maps are dated 1838 - 1840, one is from 1835. Very scarce. [WorldCat locates only one copy, at Indiana State University, which has only 32 plates (one folding) ].
