A Complete Body of Doctrinal and Practical Divinity, Or, a System of Evangelical Truths, Deduced from the Sacred Scriptures

A Complete Body Of Doctrinal And Practical Divinity, Or, A System Of Evangelical Truths, Deduced From The Sacred Scriptures by John Gill. This substantial Reformed treatise presents a systematic account of evangelical truth, combining doctrinal definition with practical application. It surveys redemption, justification, sanctification, reconciliation, and related doctrines, grounding them in Scripture and drawing on Hebrew and Greek terms. The excerpt defends a premillennial, literal, personal reign of Christ on a renewed earth, with a two-resurrections framework and a thousand-year Millennium in which Christ and the saints rule on earth while Satan is bound. It contrasts this future kingdom with the present spiritual reigns in believers’ hearts, and it details the roles of Christ, angels, saints, and the wicked. The work also treats ecclesiology and civil ethics: a congregational, gospel-centered church with believer baptism and local pastoral leadership, and a civil order under God where magistrates govern for the public good. Overall, it aims to present a scripture-grounded, coherent theological system across salvation, church, and kingdom.
