The Complete Book of Container Gardening

Covers such topics as compost, watering, pest control, and building window boxes and other containers, and includes a directory of 1,000 plants suitable for containers

Container gardening, which is growing in popularity, can provide additional growing space through the use of tubs, baskets, window boxes, barrels, pots, and even old paint tins. This book gives details on building window boxes, tiered planters, stone sinks, and raised brick and wooden beds. There are instructions on planting window boxes and hanging baskets, on using the right compost, on watering, and on pest control. There is a section on planning, showing more than 100 ways of combining plants in containers of all types, and a plant directory, a reference to almost 1,000 of the most suitable plants for container growing (giving each plant's botanical and common name, characteristics, hardiness zone, and uses, the best place to position the container for optimum results, and compost and special maintenance requirements). Eighty-one color photographs and 430 color drawings add to the book's worth. George Cohen
