Contemporary calf, gilt frames to boards, gilt spines with raised bands, lettering pieces and gilt volume numbers, blind tooling to board edges, Volumes I-III rebacked in period style retaining pieces of existing spine, hinges of those volumes mended. Moderate rubbing and scuffing to boards, heavier rubbing to extremities, corners bumped and somewhat worn, spines abraded, wear to spine ends of Volumes IV-VI, boards of those volumes beginning to separate but secure. Title pages printed in red and black. Negligible light toning to interiors, heavier toning, light edgewear, light foxing and faint dampstaining to preliminaries and final leaves, light foxing to main texts in a few places, early owner signature (Vaughan) and recent owner signature (B.W. Palmer) to front pastedowns and free endpapers, front free endpaper lacking from Volume II. Internally very good. A good working set. $500. * Third edition.
