The Complete Guide to Buying Your First Home: Roadmap to a Successful, Worry-Free Closing

Discusses financial requirements, costs and benefits of buying versus building, and how to select a real estate broker, and includes forms and checklists to guide buyers through the home buying process

Woodson introduces a new twist to what might otherwise be just another book on first-time home buying. He applies his experience as a builder and remodeler to the exercise of choosing a home. The standard chapters on financing, real estate brokers, and purchase offers are augmented by discussions on buying a fixer-upper, deciding whether to buy or build an existing home, and locating the hidden value in a house. The section entitled "Going from Renter to Landlord" illustrates alternatives to buying a single-family home. There, the advantages and disadvantages of multi-family home ownership are carefully explored. A generous appendix offers a glossary and a good selection of basic forms. Recommended for public libraries.
