Beaman starts quite literally from scratch, pictorially revealing the tools and materials to be used. The front of her book delves into 100 techniques, beginning with the how-tos of making card blanks and the art of fashioning envelopes to the more complicated embossing and metallic effects. Sidebars called "ideas and inspirations" are sprinkled throughout; each features a few design variations with occasional illustrations, like coordinating a card with the wrapping paper or drilling found items as card decorations. The second part is filled with 25 projects, elaborate and closely resembling the real store-bought item. Like a clever dinner-party invitation.
