Reviews
For crafters and artists, painting on glass has become a very creative field. DeSimone!s method is new, using a variety of rubber-tipped tools called color shapers available at craft stores. Once applied to the glass, the wet paint is patterned and manipulated using a variety of color shapers. Twelve glass projects include bowls, candy dishes, decanters, and platters. The author is director of the Decorative Painting Certificate Program at the Rhode Island School of Design, and she teaches courses at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her work is recommended for large arts and crafts collections, but for smaller collections, Gear and Freestone!s The Complete Guide to Glass Painting offers a more comprehensive approach. They cover a wide variety of paints and tools, including the use of moulds, etching, gold leafing, and embedding. Simple projects using gel paint and a kitchen oven are followed by lessons on glass cutting, layered picture frames, and an art nouveau lamp.
